Smile............an Art Journal

Smile............an Art Journal

Smile............an Art Journal
Hi Friends

I created an art Journal page today and have a step-by-step tutorial too...........

I decided to use the Premium Card stock in Bright White from Itsy Bitsy for this Art Journal page. I cut a panel size of 5-3/4"x 8-1/4" . To prepare the surface for sprays and textures, coat the card stock with Matte medium , clear or white gesso. I used DecoArt Matte Medium and dried with the heat tool……

Smile............an Art Journal

After drying , I used Itsy Bitsy Color splash in Lemon Zing, Hot Pink and Lime Splash

Dry and add some splashes with the same colors, dry with the heat tool and add some Gesso with a sponge to tone down the colors a bit

Smile............an Art Journal

I stamped the panel with some texture stamps and Black archival ink. Then I added Hot Pink Color Splash to Mont Morde Modeling Paste to create a custom made texture paste...

I love the beautiful bubble gum color it created through the Irregular dots stencil........

I added some die-cuts to finish the page.........

Punched holes and added this page in the Chip Board Album from the Itsy Bitsy store .........

All Natural and Re-purposed Book Journal

Hi Friends

Am sharing the whimsical book I created for the ongoing challenge at my favorite PaperArtsy Blog. The challenge topic is 2017 Topic 11: Books (big, small, binding).  I was inspired by this post on the PaperArtsy blog by Kate Yetter to use Burlap fabric and stitching .

All Natural and Re-purposed Book Journal

The book uses totally recycled paper and some printed left over scrap paper. The cover is made of two sheets of thick Brown packaging paper and a sheet of Burlap stitched together. The stitching is with black thread and deliberately messy. The flower design is stenciled with Snow Chalk Paint. some lace,  die cuts by Sizzix ,and handmade flowers are added

All Natural and Re-purposed Book Journal

there are four signatures inside made of coffee stained paper, recycled brown packaging tissue and paper, some sheets of pattern paper and even some envelopes........some punched borders are added randomly....

All Natural and Re-purposed Book Journal

for closure a Jute ribbon is added between layers of Printed burlap sheet+two sheets of thick brown paper, then the jute ribbon and then the inside flap sheet of pattern paper and all are stitched together

All Natural and Re-purposed Book Journal

The spine has a broken wood bracelet beads and a wooden butterfly threaded on both ends. The binding is pretty basic and improvised :) but sturdy !! I loved all the posts on this topic by the design team and the information packed challenge post as usual and already have few more ideas to create some small books for gifting and Art journal.

Please be kind as this is the first ever book I have created ....there is huge scope for improvement but I really love it :) I also want to mention my blogger pal Rupa who makes very interesting journals and books and inspired me with her coffee stained paper journals to give this a try.

Thank you so much for your support and your comments, they mean so much to me !!

Antique Brass Patina Finish with One Product and 3 Easy Steps

Antique Brass Patina Finish with DecoArt Metallic Lustre

Hello Friends

Today I am sharing a Junk Journal cover page made using only the DecoArt Metallic Lustre for coloring and patina effect.

Antique Brass Patina Finish with DecoArt Metallic Lustre

Step 1: Creating Texture : I created this on thick textured card stock, created texture using DecoArt White Modeling Paste and a stencil.

Step 2 : Base coat : Although the Metallic lustre is meant to use as a  top coat wax I decided to use it for coloring too. I painted the page with Metallic lustre in Elegant Emerald and Brilliant Turquoise after diluting a bit with water ....

Step 3 : Highlight Texture : Highlighted the textures with Gold Rush and Silver Spark Metallic Lustre by dry brushing with a stiff brush. The handmade clay angel is colored with a diluted Brilliant Turquoise and highlighted with dry Gold Rush . The metallic embellishments are also dry brushed with Gold Rush and Iced Expresso. Buff the texture with a soft cloth to increase the sheen.

I was quite happy with the Antique Patina effect with only one product and three easy steps, hope you will give this technique a try. Does it not look like Embossed Metal to you ??

I made this the cover of my Journal made out of Cardboard, in case you are interested to know how to create your own Junk Journal using cardboard, see this easy tutorial here
More about Metallic Lustre by DecoArt
Metallic Lustre is a water-based metallic wax that buffs to a brilliant shine. It features highly concentrated pigments and boasts an opaque coverage with only one coat. Metallic Lustre adheres to most absorbent surfaces, as well as metal. Because it's a paste, it allows for more control during application than liquid paint.
  • Dries quickly
  • Water-based
  • Soap and water clean-up
  • Non-toxic
  • Made in the USA

Beautiful Chaos........ATC set with DecoArt Media

Hello Friends
I created a set of ATC's 'Embrace beautiful Chaos'  on MDF base with the wonderful DecoArt Media  products ......

I used Primary Cyan, Cobalt Turquoise Hue  Fluid acrylics and a bit of black gesso as a base of the ATCs
After drying I used DecoArt Crackle paste with a palette knife to create uneven layer of crackle paste to get a variety of cracks. Allow to dry naturally.
Die cut some hearts, colored with Fluid acrylics in Pyrrolle Red, Quinacridone Magenta, then a thin layer of crackle paste. Layered on rolled up book paper straws. Stamped with some rubber texture stamps and black archival ink and added some splatters with Pyrrole red. Tied a string and finished with Tim Holtz Sentiment sticker.
