added a magnet each ( recycled from an old phone case destined for the bin )  on the back with a strong adhesive.  some Gesso, tissue paper and acrylic colors and final coat of Gloss medium on top and added googly eyes and a painted styrofoam ball for the nose and I have a set of unique fridge magnets just right for the season.........or....skip the magnets and these can be cute ornaments for your tree !!

Old Jigsaw puzzle and some multi-media snowflakes

Hi Friends , this is my second project for Lessology toy story challenge . I have used some old jigsaw puzzles with a lot of pieces missing to recycle for this project.

Started with ..................

First I tried making the snowflakes in pristine white with some real snow effect using thermacol which you can see in these pics. It looked nice but I was not entirely happy with the effect so more layers were added. I would like to share a tip  here...... it you want to try using thermacol/ styrofoam, add talcum powder to the grater, your hands and the container to cut the static. If you use any face/baby/dusting powder it is very easy to work with otherwise it will keep flying all over. .

Well so after Gesso, tissue, layering with thermocol layers and acrylic colors in silver, gold, acrylic gloss medium, sequins and more colors, you get................

I loved this antique gold kinda look the best....

Old jigsaw puzzle and DIY Chrismas wreath

Hi friends,

Today I am going to share another recycled project with you. This is for Lessology toy story challenge . I have used some old jigsaw puzzles with a lot of pieces missing to recycle for this project. In fact I made three projects

so starting with this..............................

to....................................................................

I have used
rhine stones , ribbon, quilling paper in red, some snowflakes in white, a beautiful rhinestone ornament received from Deb to embellish this. used gesso, acrylic colors, tissue paper and thermacol/ styrofoam layers to create this.

I am not so good at making a bow so used paper quilling strips in red, curled them and used on top of the wreath. Punched a hole and added a ribbon to hang this.

You can also have a look at  my fridge magnets DIY here and some snowflakes DIY using the puzzle pieces here

Hanging Festival lights DIY

Hi friends

I would like to share a project made for Diwali. I have upcycled a cookie tin lid and some tiny jam bottles for this project. Used some wire, glass beads and T-Lite candles. You'll need wire-cutter and pliers to shape and shape the wire.

I started with marking and punching holes in the cookie tin lid ( 2 for each jar on the outer perimeter of the tin lid with a big nail and hammer ........so sorry I forgot to take any pics) and then tying the wire around the jars and hanging on the lid. I created a hanger with wire wrapping on the center of the lid ........hope this pic in daylight can give you some clue of the process........

After all the wire wrapping and hanging it was time to fill the bottles with some sparkling shining glass beads to add color and shine and also to give desired height to place the T- lite candles. The candles fit well in the jars and this is safe and secure as its all metal and glass. I made sure that the wires are away from any direct flame and that the candles won't tip over as they fit perfectly with in the jars.

This project is quite easy to do and you can store these easily for reuse later, just slip the bottles/ jars out and remove beads for later use or using in another project. Use any size of jars or bottles and lids. you can also use chains to hang the jars so that this is even more flexible and easy to store. Hang as many or as few lights depending on the top lid or frame you use. Have fun !!

I love these hanging lights and they reflect to double the light in this mirror. Hope you like this simple festival lights project.

Tags made using the Fighting Back collection by Moxxie

Hi Friends

Here are some Tags made using the Fighting Back collection by Moxxie !October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and Moxxie created a faboulous collection of Papers, cardstock stickers and rub-ons. You can view the amazing projects on the Moxxie blog.. I was lucky enough to win this awesome collection and used it to create some tags.

I have used Kraft card for the base, homemade gesso and gauze on the base, the gorgeous papers and some rub-ons from the collection. I had this rhinestone sticker of a pair of sunglasses received as a RAK from Deb which I shaped into a bra to be used on the cardstock sticker. I'm sure Deb would be happy as the breast cancer cause is very dear to her and she created some awesome projects around this theme. The deep pink Ric rac is also from the pack Deb sent to me which I toned down with some gesso to match the pink of the Moxxie collection.

for this tag , I used the negative of one sticker with the Rub-on in the center and used some tiny pearls,  and washi tape .

Hope you all like it ....

A S-troll down memory lane

Hi Friends

This post is especially for my lovely blends ( blogger friends) Deb Ochs-LaGrone of a  A Look through my eye and for Mary Ellen Smith of  Free dearie dolls digi stamps for Deb's FB challenge Troll Bridge Challenge.

let me tell you that I had no information on the troll dolls but Deb explained it and her memories associated with the troll dolls, hence the title 'A S-troll down memory lane'. Mary was so sweet to draw a troll doll especially for me and send me a digital image, thank you so much Mary Ellen Smith !!

I hand drew the Troll bridge, added some texture paste, used water color pencils, acrylic colors and fine tip black marker. colored the digi with water color pencils, fussy cut and used foam tape to add dimension, Mary had drawn the digi image with a watering can in hand which I changed to a handbag. added some punched flowers and leafs and the sentiment is computer generated. (Psssst, Deb, do you recognize that S in stroll.....). Mounted on a textured brown handmade paper, the finished size is 20x20cm. I plan to use this for the cover page of a story book for my son's school project.

This is for the first time I tried something like this and only for both these awesome ladies, Deb and Mary !!! Hope you'll be kind in your review.....am in need of some serious reassurance !!

A Guest Post for LESSology

Hi Friends

I am so happy and excited to do a guest post for one of my favourite blogs LESSology ( the beauty and artistry of using less )  for their Raid the Kitchen Challenge.  For this challenge one has to create projects using something from your kitchen incorporating at least one recycled item.

I have made two projects for the Raid Your Kitchen challenge. Upcycled some old stainless steel containers and a wafer box  for this challenge. There have been few things I wanted to try for some time and that is using crackle effects and decoupage. I have used locally made inexpensive products for both these techniques.

I started with lightly sanding the steel containers so that the paint can adhere better.I used bronze, copper, blue and aqua green metallic acrylic colors as a base coat and left it overnight to dry.

next used Fevicryl Hobby Ideas crackle medium all over. Wait for about 5-10 minutes and then painted over with a bit of rust mixed with white acrylic colors As I had applied a thick coat of crackle medium, the resultant cracks started appearing soon and are quite defined and big to show the various layers of mixed colors underneath.

I have added some wood and mirror embellishments on the lid, the second one had some pink stones so I painted over with matching colors. Have kept it simple as did not want to take away from the beautiful crackle effect. Finished with two coats of clear varnish.

For the chocolate wafer box decoupage  ( box image from the net as forgot to click a picture)  ......

I first painted the tin container with white acrylic color.  Adhered this nice green net effect and wine glass print napkin with home made mod podge ( diluted fevicol MR with water in a 1:1 ratio), left to dry overnight and then coated with another layer of fevicol mix.

The different laces are from the super cheap scrap basket of a local lace and button store. for the lid I have used the gorgeous off white flower and the green foam flowers which I received from Tone-Hill all the way from Norway, the glittery leaves are hand cut from the lace.

I do hope you would like these altered projects. It is such a pleasure and an honor to be a guest on LESSology to share my work with all of you. Many many thanks to the sweetest and extremely talented Yvonne oDo More with less and LESSology  and all my friends in blogland for their love and support !! I really appreciate it ..............

If you like to decoupage, pl have a look at Selena's blog which has a whole lot of amazing projects and tutorials.
