Gilding with Metallic Leaf

Hi Friends

Today I want to share with you a festive alteration using the Metallic leaf and Alcohol splash from Itsy Bitsy............The metallic leaf treatment can be tried on any surface be it metal, glass, plastic , terracotta or ceramic.
Metallic finishes and gilding can add glamour, shine, richness, and patina to your decorative painting projects. Use sheets of Mont Marte metal gold, copper and silver leaf to accent furniture/ painting/texture/patterns and surfaces.
Here I tried it on metal and glass. I opted for alcohol splash on the inside of  glass bowls as I love the transparency and vibrancy of Alcohol Splash . also the tray and the bowls are fully functional as the tray with metallic leaf has been coated with few coats of Asian Paints varnish and can be wiped clean or even washed with a mild detergent. The glass bowls have no paint or varnish on the inside and totally safe to use with food or dry snacks.

so I started with this old metal tray which had enamel treatment that had peeled off and these textured glass bowls....

to this ......

my supplies......copper and silver leaf, leafing size and soft flat brushes to apply leaf.........

clean the bowls and tray with Isopropanyl Alcohol/Surgical spirit or alcohol solution

I applied Alcohol splash with a sponge on the outer side of the glass bowls........

let dry completely

Apply a very thin layer of Leafing size on the tray and the outside of bowls with a flat brush and leave for at least 20-30 minutes......

then start applying the metal leaf carefully on the tacky surface ,I added both copper and silver as I wanted a mix color effect .......

I also tried this on certain hand made resin embellishments  although I did not use them on this project but you can see the faux gilding one can achieve even on curved and textured surfaces.......

so this is my 'New' serving platter for sweets and dry-fruits this Diwali

see the lovely colors and shine of  fine metallic leaf through the transparent Alcohol splash

Do give the metallic leaf a try and add glamour to your ArtThank you so much for visiting & taking the time to comment on my blog. I love to hear from you & truly appreciate your feedback.

DIY Tea light holder

DIY Tea light holder

Hi Friends

I made some Tea light holders with DecoArt Americana Neon Lights paints in Peach Punch,  Radiant Yellow and Pink Explosion
DIY Tea light holder

and copper and silver leaf, leafing size and soft flat brushes to apply leaf from Itsy Bitsy .........

I made this topper flower using layers of book papers, doilies and punched circles , the layers were colored using diluted neon colors , scrunched up and fixed with a brad and then a decorative shiny piece of bling , finally brushed a thin layer of leafing size on the edges and added Mont Marte copper leaf .....

I assembled and glued the MDF Tea light holder and added a thin layer of Gesso first and then brushed all the three shades of Neon paints randomly. let dry and brush a very thin layer of Leafing size ( which is a very thin and very tacky glue for adding Metallic leaf to different surfaces) . leave for at least 20-30 minutes and then randomly apply copper and silver leaf  an all sides .........I used the leaf only in certain places and kept a distressed look ........

Isn't it amazing ........

A very Happy Diwali dear friends !!!

Some Positive Affirmations

Hi Friends
I created some cards for a friend who was in need of  a bit of support and positive affirmations ......

I have made this card with the Copper Luxury stack. It has beautiful double-sided paper in water color patterns and mint and copper foiled designs. I have cut and torn the pattern papers in layers on the card, added some enamel dots to finish .......shape: Rectangle and the sentiment is also from the same stack.

I have made this
card  with the Blue China stack from DCWV. It has beautiful double-sided paper and 12x12 die-cut sheets in wonderful designs.

I layered pattern paper and die cut sheets , cut the sentiment from the same stack with an oval die and created an oval frame from gold metallic sheet, added some pearl stickers and flowers to the frame. linking this card to DCWV and  Unstampabelleschallenges-Tic-tac-toeusing flowers , die-cuts , stickers

I am linking these cards to October  DCWV Stack-o-holic Challenge  using the sketch below

Happy Diwali

Add caption
Dear friends
sharing some Diwali cards using stencils and glitter......

I have used DecoArt Clear Modeling paste through the Kaisercraft stencil and then added dry glitter in Pink, teal and blue and then removed the stencil............added a rhinestone in centre. the sentiment is a gold sticker mounted on black card stock, love the dimension of the textured glitter.......

I made another one using the Americana Doily stencil and DecoArt Clear Modeling Paste

Linking to PaperArtsy  Topic 14: Glitter I was inspired by this post  on the PaperArtsy blog by Raquel Burillo and the faboulous image of glittered lips on the challenge introduction post .

I am not a great fan of glitter but I enjoyed making these cards and I love how these shades of glitter mixed and make the peacock feather colors, the shine is amazing and the clear modeling paste by DecoArt worked beautifully to create texture and to hold the glitter in place :)
