She was ready for the journey ahead.........

Hi friends, sharing another layout and Image transfer with all of you. This is on a thick handmade water color paper, size 8"x10". This has a lot of layers, first is modeling paste and stamping with wood block stamps, then a layer of acrylics and inks, crackle medium followed by another layer of acrylic paints and then stenciling with the crafters workshop fancy feathers stencil, Gelatoes in gold and blood orange were rubbed to define the texture in some places. So after all these layers, it looked like this.........................

I have again used the Image transfer technique by Andy Skinner to transfer the Frida Kahlo image to this layout. All the useful links to this technique have been given in my earlier blog post here. The image is a free download from Andy Skinner's site here. Here's the image after I cropped, resized and fussy cut it ................

Of course one has to keep it face down and mark the area lightly and then some painting with acrylics and splashing some acrylic retarder later........

Image transfer, stamping using the Tim Holtz visual artistry stamps, some tissue decoupage, embellishments and some additional texture using some more fancy feather stencil with texture paste on water color paper and fussy cutting that to use as accents with paints and glitter later...........

I have stamped the sentiment with the wooden alphabet stamps with archival ink on decoupage napkin and attached the top layer with gel medium.....

some close ups.............here you can see the crackle effect and the tissue decoupage and some lace flowers....some ink splatters to finish off.......

I am enjoying working on these ....hope you like these attempts....somehow I feel a strong affinity with this image and in a way the sentiment has a personal significance for me ............. Thanks again to Andy Skinner and Betty Franks Krause for all the inspiration and step by step videos !! In fact Betty has used this sentiment in one of her layouts and much as I tried I could not find a better one so used the sentiment as it is !!

First Canvas and an Image transfer

Hi friends

I have been going through a lot of mixed media videos on YouTube and I came across Andy Skinner's technique called Splash and image transfer. I have also been following an amazing artist Betty Franks Krause of Mystic Tulip Mixed Media. She has plenty of YouTube videos and is generously sharing her tips and techniques of adding layers of texture and colors to Art pieces  and mixed media works.

This is acrylics and inks on canvas inspired by this video here, I started with a canvas with lots of colors, random stamping, texture and ink drips and old book pages.......

old book pages teared into circles and added with gel medium.....

I have followed Andy Skinner's video to create this project using Camel Artist quality Acrylic colors, camel inks, camel retarder for acrylics and clear varnish. The Johnny Depp image is a free image from his site  here which was resized to fit the 8'x10' canvas.

The splatters in white , black and red were added with Isomars ink pens. Here you can see the sides of the canvas ...the colors, texture and stamping have extended to all the sides. please have a look at Andy's tutorial for all the steps, he's explained it beautifully !! Hope you would like my first attempt at a canvas.......

I am about to finish another one using Image transfer and will share shortly .

Paper Artsy has a unique theme for this month which is to use fragile papers. The design team has put up lots of inspiration, I was inspired by Kate Yetter's project using book pages and the striking focal image used by her.

Update : This was featured as Designer Spotlight on Simon says Stamp : Inky background

Altered Clipboard and Homemade Chalk Board Paint

Hi Friends
This is an altered Clipboard which has been made into a Chalkboard for the Kids room. We plan to make it into an inspiration board with a nice word or quote for the day.

This started off with an old clipboard in bad shape, I wanted to try my homemade chalkboard recipe to alter it so have a look at what all you will need .....

..............I have used china clay/ceramic powder from Itsy Bitsy and Black Acrylic color in equal  quantity, little water and little white glue, mixed it well and painted the clipboard on both sides. Given two coats of the homemade chalkboard paint, letting dry between coats.I liked the final result as the powder mixed into paint easily, the coverage was good , it dried within half an hour (both coats) and left a perfect chalky finish. I stored the left over paint in a plastic bottle and it has the same consistency after a week. It goes without saying that it is as economical as the cost of the acrylic color you are using AND YOU CAN MAKE IT IN ANY SHADE YOU WANT AS LONG AS YOU HAVE THE  DESIRED SHADE OF ACRYLIC COLOR ON HAND !!! The finish is smooth, chalky and beautiful !!! In case you do not have ceramic powder or china clay, you can use tile grout, Plaster of paris, wall putty or even baking soda in its place, try it... it is great fun !!

After this I wanted to make my chalk board pretty so used the Tim Holtz Doily stencil with some Texture Paste by Camel ( mixed acrylic pearl colors with the Texture paste ).................

to get ..........

please do have a look at my handmade flower without using any die, the paper is normal printer paper colored using some diluted  paints and silver powder, hand cut and shaped and layered into this pretty bloom..........

This one is made using the tattered flowers die and has handcolored paper, book and magazine pages !! The papers were colored using the paint I had mixed with metallic acrylic powders to make some mists, the experiment did not turn out the way I expected so used the mix to create some shimmery paper !!

Hope you all like it and the chalk paint recipe is useful !!
