Featured Artist and a tutorial at Lulupu

Hello Friends
I am so excited and honored to be on the Lulupu  blog as the Featured artist  today !! I had won their last challenge for this entry of mine and was thrilled when I got a mail from Lulupu and was invited for a GDT spot. I am sharing this project and a tutorial on the Lulupu blog today, there is also an interview....

I have created a handmade Art Journal for myself using thick Canson cardstock and Brustro Watercolor paper. I am sharing the cover page for my journal along with a tutorial ………..

I started with ….  ColourArte Silks acrylic Glazes in Sea Spray and Lemondrop and the mini misters

I printed the image on copy paper using the laser printer and fussy cut it….

Diluted the silks with some water and sprayed using the mini misters to create my background….The silks are permanent once they dry…I hope you can see the shimmer……once the background is dry, place the image face down and adhere with gel medium, give a coat of Gel medium on top as well and leave to dry completely. The lovely image is from here

Once everything is dry, spritz with water and rub gently to remove the paper,be very gentle so that only the very top layer comes off. Let it dry and if you see bits of paper still sticking repeat the process. Coat the image with Gel medium to seal the image.

Sorry but I do not have the process pics after this , will try my best to explain…
I have used the faber-Castell Mixed Media stencils, 101collection and texture paste to stencil all around, stamped with Black archival ink and Prima texture stamps, used ColourArte Silks acrylic Glaze in Apple Blossom to add some more color.

Added the silks on the image to enhance the colors on it…the mica in the acrylic glazes adds so much of glamour to the image.................

The words are from Tim Holtz chitchat stickers, some stars are added and lastly I have added few layers of Transparent Glass stain in clear from Sapphire (an Indian Glass stain company) which gives lots of dimension and a glass like finish to my focal image……

I do hope you will join me on the Lulupu blog here to know little more about me and leave me some love. Big thanks to Karuna and team Lulupu for inviting me !!

Believe in Magic

Hi Friends

Sharing a mixed media page for the cover of an altered book inspired by the bright and vibrant mood boards/picture inspiration from some lovely blogs..........

I started with thick chipboard and a base layer of gesso. This was followed by a thick layer of texture paste and texture created with the use of a quilling comb, let it dry completely. Have painted randomly with colourArte silks acrylic glazes in Apple blossom, kiwi, sea spray and lemon drop..........

Have used another stencil and texture paste and then sprayed with antique gold spray paint........

hearts are cut with dies from white cardstock, stamped with book print stamp, stencilled with sequin waste and texture paste. The heart in blue is painted with sea spray acrylic glaze .....

The red and golden yellow heart is gessoed, texture added with sequin waste and painted with silks, see the gorgeous effect of silks as these are translucent and show off the embossing and texture perfectly.  I then doodled with 3D paints in pearl white and sunshine yellow.

Twine is colored with black acrylic and gold and wrapped around the panel, sentiment by Tim Holtz and the butterfly is stamped with black archival ink. some rhinestones and lace is added and the panel is mounted on handmade paper.........

a closer look........................

Wish Big- Mixed Media Canvas for ColourArte

Hello Dear Friends

Today I have a mixed media canvas as a submission project for the ColourArte Design Team call.

I made a 8x10 canvas with a lot of handmade embellishments and recycled stuff...........

Here is a step-by-step pictorial for making your own canvas.......... I started with a pre- primed canvas in 8"x10" and used Mini Specimen stencil by crafters workshop and the texture pattern by Faber-Castell.............

Have used Texture paste in black and white to create the texture using a spatula..........

Used heavy Gel medium to attach a lot of found objects and handmade flowers in cold porcelain clay, metal, sea shells, beads etc to create a cluster on the left hand top corner............added drywall tape for some more texture..............

The right hand bottom corner has a computer part as the base, an ice-cream stick to create a shelf and a glass sample perfume bottle ...........I love the texture and design on the Versace bottle and was saving it for a special project .........I wrapped twine on the MDF sentiment 'Wish big' from Craftslane and created texture using my finger and texture paste on the sentiment.........a close up of the bottom cluster with shells, bling, chunky glitter and glass beads.............

All these flowers are handmade, Each and every bit adds to the texture in the end and the metallic colors show off every teeny tiny piece of dimension beautifully.........so I mixed clay and metal, glass and wooden beads, faceted bling and micro beads, found objects, keys, nuts and bolts..........
Another benefit is that you can use embellishments of any color as these get coated by black gesso so you can use your left over bits and pieces or any embellishments in colors you seldom use. I left this to dry naturally overnight .

The whole canvas gets coated in a generous layer of Black gesso, make sure to cover thoroughly.........Leave to dry completely.

After the layer of Black Gesso is dry comes the coloring part. I had ColorArte Silks Acrylic Glazes in four colors ie Apple Blossom, Lemon Drop, Sea Spray and Kiwi. I used the Silks and a combination of pearl and metallic acrylic colors to add life to my canvas !! Here it is after the first layer of color in Pearl metallic white.................

another layer ....see the textures coming to life ...........

After this came layers and layers of dry brushing the silks and other colors........

Just remember that your brush should be completely dry and take the minimum amount of color on the tip of a flat brush. This is quite a forgiving technique to get a wonderful effect and create a lovely piece of Art and you can give it a go even if you are not too confident of handling paints. In case your colors go wrong or your layers get too thick, you can give a coat of black again and restart.....so I would urge you to try it once :)

Here are some tips for the Dry Brushing Technique :
1. Dry brushing technique involves using a paint brush that has a minimum amount of paint on it and using it to highlight textures and edges.2. It is best to use a flat brush for this technique.3. Keep your brush at a 90 degree angle and lightly brush edges or raised areas. Start with a light touch and gradually build color/layers.4. The secret to this technique is not to apply too much paint on your brush, it is a good idea to keep a spare paper on which you wipe your brush after taking paint on it before starting on your textured surface.

so after all that...........here is my final work......you can see I added some tiny acrylic butterflies here and there, removed the twine from my sentiment and added a little bird to my canvas.........

You can see the dimension here..................

I like the Versace bottle and the texture on the sentiment which is by using 3D metallic paints. All the sides of the canvas are textured, painted, highlighted and wrapped with 4 rounds of twine colored with the same metallic copper paint..............

Hope my lovely blogger friends and the awesome team at ColourArte likes this canvas of mine !!

A quick school project....stencils and spray paint !!

Hi friends

My son had to decorate a 8x10 wall tile for his school's 50th anniversary......and we had just half an hour to do it....here's a quick and easy project......

My son was happy sanding the tile to create some rough texture so that the paints have a better chance to adhere. He then painted it all over with the black acrylic paint. we were so short of time that we decided to go with simply stenciling a design...so out with some inexpensive stencils and a spray paint in gold........this part was done by me for obvious reasons. I used a craftslane flourish stencil in the opposite corners and the itsy bitsy party stencil on the left hand bottom corner , I messed up on the right top corner so just wiped all the paint and stamped with the negative of the party stencil which had a lot of paint on it ............love the gold on white with all that embossing kinda effect...talk of happy accidents !! The 3D outliner by Fevicryl in copper is used to write Anniversary wishes and some dimension on the cake. The spray paint dries super quick.....a coat of spray varnish and packed and ready for school !! Hope this is useful and gives some new ideas to the busy moms and kids !!
